FREEHOLD, NJ -- August 23, 2024 -- The historic half-mile oval in Freehold, New Jersey returned to live racing today after its three-month summer break. Jimmy Marohn Jr took control of the ten-race card, scoring five times out of eight chances on the card.

His first two drives of the day told a similar story: wire-to-wire wins with the favorite from post two. In races two and three he steered Trish Speaker and My Big Kadillac to victory, respectively. He then went on to win race five in similar fashion, this time was from the rail with Take Your Pick, who paced the fastest mile of the day, in 1:54.3.

Marohn’s most shocking win of the day came in race six. He got away fourth from post two with 9-1 shot Pilsner Frosty, one of just two three-year-olds in a field of older trotters. He kept his fourth place position until it was go-time. They pulled before the three-quarter pole and then battled the leader through the final turn and down the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:58.3. Taylor Gower trains the Six Pack filly for Paul Minore. A win bet paid $21.80

Race nine was a no-doubter as Marohn scored win number five aboard Hunt You Down who rocketed out from post one and never looked back to win at 1-9. Mike Moran was the winning owner/trainer.

Opening weekend racing continues tomorrow (Aug.24) with 11 races starting at 12:30pm. Freehold Raceway will host live racing every Friday and Saturday for the remainder of the year with the addition of five Thursdays from September 12-October 10. Post time is 12:30pm.
