The SBOANJ’s mission is to support and promote the Standardbred industry in New Jersey by nurturing and preserving a favorable business climate while striving to secure closer business and personal relationships among all industry participants throughout the state.
Benefits of membership include:
Health and Welfare
The SBOANJ offers health insurance to qualified horsemen. The Benevolent Committee provides support to horsemen in need. The Backstretch Community Assistance Program (BCAP), under the direction of Dr. Chris Samaha, offers free counseling and many other health and education programs. BCAP and the SBOANJ sponsor college scholarships to qualified students of active NJ horsemen.
Retirement plan
Standardbred drivers and trainers who meet certain requirements qualify for the SBOANJ Driver/Trainer retirement plan. This is a non-contributory plan that benefits horsemen who participate in the New Jersey racing industry.
Representation in Trenton
The SBOANJ and its advocates, TrotPac, represent the Standardbred horse industry and its participants in Trenton, working tirelessly to ensure that the well-being of the industry is considered by the lawmakers of New Jersey.
Additional Insurance
Membership provides additional insurance to an eligible member who owns a standardbred horse.
Sulky Insurance
The SBOANJ will help cover the cost to repair a damaged sulky if the owner, driver and trainer are current members (limitations apply).
Breeder Awards and NJ sired awards
Breeders of a horse racing in designated races will receive a monetary award based on money earned. Owners of a New Jersey sired horse 6-year-old and under racing in overnight events in New Jersey will receive a monetary payout based on finish.
On site track representation
An SBOANJ horsemen’s representative is available at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
