EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- August 2, 2024 -- The Breeders Crown Charity Challenge, the brainchild of prominent owner Marvin Katz, is back for a sixth year and with the 12-race championship series being held at The Meadowlands in 2024, local fans and charities can get in on the action.
The goals of the challenge are to strengthen community and racing industry bonds and create positive relationships; raise awareness of the positive contributions harness racing makes in the Tri-State area; maximize social media engagement, awareness and on-track attendance at the Breeders Crown at The Big M; raise much-needed funds and awareness for participating charities; and maximize exposure for team sponsors and donors.
Teams for the challenge were chosen last night (Friday, Aug. 2), with each having a driver, an influencer, a trainer and an owner.
The teams are:
· Team Gingras: Jenna Otten, Tony Alagna, Burke Racing/Weaver Bruscemi
· Team Dunn: Jessica Otten, Nancy Takter, Courant
· Team Tetrick: Mary McDermott, Ake Svanstedt, Bill Pollock
· Team David Miller: Dawnelle Mock, Marcus Melander, Brad Grant
These are the charities that will be drawn on Aug. 30:
· SBH Health System, Bronx, NY
· enCourage Kids, NY
· New Jersey YMCA State Alliance
· Friends of Union County
Fans will get to vote for their favorite team, or charity, if they prefer, and are permitted one vote per person per day. That will help generate points for the final standings to see how much money gets distributed to the charities.
There will also be an influencer handicapping contest conducted over Breeders Crown Eliminations Weekend at The Big M on Oct. 18-19, which will also go toward a given team’s point total.
Check presentations will take place after the final Breeders Crown race on Oct. 30.
During the first five years of the BCCC, over $1.5 million has been raised for local organizations where the Breeders Crown has been held, helping host tracks forge a bond with their communities while highlighting the benevolence of the harness racing industry.
