OPENING REMARKS FOR MDEST CONFERENCE

-- Anthony Perretti, SBOANJ director, Chairman of TrotPAC

MANALAPAN, NJ -- October 14, 2016 -- Good morning, and thank you all from taking time out of your busy schedules to join us this morning for such a critically important topic.

I’m Anthony Perretti, a director on the board of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey and also Chairman of TrotPAC, the official fundraising arm of the New Jersey’s Standardbred horse racing industry.

On behalf of the thousands of people who work in New Jersey’s equine industry – breeders, trainers, drivers, owners, grooms, blacksmiths, feed and equipment suppliers, veterinarians, and all our community open space advocates – I’m here to express on unwavering support for casino gaming in North Jersey, particularly at the Meadowlands.

The Meadowlands is an ideal location for a new casino. Vast studies have proven that people in northern and central New Jersey view the Meadowlands as the premiere sports and entertainment destination in the Northeast. As home to the Giants and Jets, the soon to open American Dream complex, and our brand new Meadowlands Racetrack, there is no better location than the Meadowlands for siting a new world class casino.

Today you are going to hear from a multitude of experts that will show why a casino in the Meadowlands will not only thrive, but will help drive several industries, including my horse racing industry, and why we all must do what we can to promote passage this election day of the Public Question #1 which would allow for two new casinos to be built north of Atlantic City.

The men and women of the SBOANJ have invested in a grass roots campaign to ask New Jersey voters to approve this public question as it would allow New Jersey to rightfully reclaim billions of dollars in casino gaming revenue that New York and Pennsylvania currently are collecting from New Jersey casino patrons. But voting yes on public question number 1 is more than expanding casino operations; it’s about preserving the critical component of New Jersey’s overall quality of life: protection of our existing farms, open spaces, and close proximity to world-class entertainment.

All of us here today know a casino in the Meadowlands makes sense. But we all need to let the voters know that the Meadowlands is a true entertainment destination, and the appropriate place for a new casino. I’m confident that after listening to this morning’s speakers, you’ll come away with an enthusiasm of what we can accomplish if we all work together and get our message across to our constituents.

Again, thank you very much for your support, and enjoy the rest of the presentations.
