CALABRESE CONTINUES HIS WINNING WAYS IN GSY AMATEUR-PRO AM FINAL

-- Matt Zuccarello, GSY Series Reporter

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- July 30, 2016 -- As the final race of the GSY Series took place on Saturday (July 30) night, a familiar face found himself in the winners circle again. This time against a few pros as well in this special Amateur/Pro-Am event.

John Calabrese, driving the post time favorite Flying Isa N held on to win by a head in a race timed in 1:54.1. As the gate opened for this field of eight under sloppy conditions, one of the pros, Tim Tetrick, took command with It Really Matters and held onto that lead until the top of the stretch. That is when the leader was challenged on the outside and overtaken by Calabrese.

He had to hold off a hard-charging Hannah Miller, aboard Born To Fight who took second and another professional and Hall of Famer, David Miller, ended up third, driving B L Class Act.

Flying Isa N is an 8 year-old gelded son by Pegasus Spur, is owned by Windermere Stable LLC and trained by Darran Cassar.

It was a great GSY Amateur season and special thanks goes out to David Yarock for putting this competition together, along with the assistance of David Glasser, and Matt Zuccarello who was the weekly series reporter. Stay tuned for the next season of this ever-popular and exciting aspect of harness racing as the racing did not disappoint.
