JOHN CAMPBELL SUFFERS WRIST FRACTURE IN BABY RACE SPILL

FROM HARNESSRACING.COM
July 31, 2015
Hall of Fame driver John Campbell suffered a broken wrist as a result of an accident during a 2-year-old baby race Friday morning, July 31, 2015 at the Meadowlands.

Campbell told harnessracing.com that x-rays taken immediately afterward at the hospital revealed the break, but he's also going to his own doctor later Friday afternoon to determine the severity of the injury.

Campbell said he will know more about any recovery time after he sees his own doctor. He said the only thing he knows for sure early Friday afternoon was that he would not be able to drive Friday or Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Campbell had eight drives Friday, including Gifted Lady in a Jim Doherty Memorial 2-year-old filly trot elimination. He also had a drive in each of the three elims for the Peter Haughton Memorial for 2-year-old colt trotters: Alexander Hanover, Encore Gold and Celebrity Pilatus.

Campbell's 11 drives on Saturday include Wild Honey, the 6-5 morning-line favorite in one of two Hambletonian Oaks eliminations, Melody's Monet in the TVG Open Trot, and Doo Wop Hanover in the TVG Open Pace.

Campbell was driving the 2-year-old colt trotter Drazzmatazz in the fifth race Friday morning when the trotter suffered an interference break and he was dumped to the racetrack. Campbell has 116 wins this year, the most he has had in a single year since 2010. He has a UDR of .276, which is his highest since 2002. With $2.97 million in purse earnings this year, Campbell's record total now stands at $293,530,181.
