DAN PATCH WINNER MISSION BRIEF MAKES HER 2015 DEBUT IN FIRST LEG OF NJSS

MANALAPAN, NJ – May 14, 2015 - Mission Brief, the 2014 Dan Patch Award winner as Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year, makes her 2015 debut in a $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes, the 11th race on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Meadowlands.

It is the opening round of New Jersey Sire Stakes for three-year-olds this weekend. Trotters will be featured on Friday night with 15 colts and geldings, split into two $20,000 division, in the second and fourth races, and 10 fillies in the 11th race.

Three-year-old pacers are on tap Saturday night in a quartet of $20,000 divisions. There are 14 fillies split between the first and second races while 17 colts and gelding are divided between the fourth and ninth races.

The Saturday night program also includes the $183,650 AJ Cutler Memorial Final for older trotters [seventh race] and the $50,000 TVG Pace [11th race] for free for allers.

“I have told the other owners that with this horse, the highs will be really high and the lows will be horrible,” said Mission Brief’s trainer Ron Burke. “With her, I’m holding my breath and maybe getting ready to drive to the George Washington Bridge.”

Mission Brief made a break in her first qualifier on May 1, a miscue that Burke attributes to a shoeing change that the temperamental filly did not like. She stayed trotting in her second qualifier a week later, a victory in 1:56.2.

“I tried to shoe her a little more aggressively like I shoe most of my other good trotters, and she just didn’t take to it so we switched her shoes back to how we had them last year,” explained Burke.

Mission Brief, owned by Burke Racing Stable, Our Horse Cents Stable, J&T Silva Stables, and Weaver Bruscemi, will face nine other fillies in her season’s debut. The daughter of Muscle Hill is the 3-5 morning line favorite with Yannick Gingras at the lines.

“She was great training this week and maybe she is just waiting for us to get aggressive with her,” said Burke. “It seems that the hardest quarters for her are when she has to go medium speed. She can easily warm up in 35 second quarters and can go those big 27 second quarters in a race, but it’s going that in-between-speed that seems to be the hardest.”

Last year, Mission Brief trotted the fastest mile ever by any two-year-old – male or female – stopping the clock in 1:50.3 in winning at The Red Mile. She won nine of 13 races – but went off stride in all four losses – and earned $591,070.
