JULIE MILLER NAMED TRUSTEE; HHYF STOPS AT GAITWAY FARMS IN JULY

MANALAPAN, NJ – February 25, 2015 – Trainer Julie Miller of Millstone, NJ was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, whose summer camp program will stop at Gaitway Farms at the end of July.

“I saw HHYF when I was in Illinois,” Miller said. “I saw how they reached the kids. When we made the move out East, and we saw HHYF was at Gaitway Farms, I wanted to get involved. I am especially excited to be joining HHYF as we begin preparing for the 40th anniversary.”

A five-day non-overnight camp at Gaitway Farms in New Jersey will take place on July 27-31, 2015. The camps culminate with a driving exhibition on Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands on August 8.

Overall, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation’s 2015 summer program schedule includes stops in eight states, including a leadership camp at the Goshen Historic Track and a one-day event at Nappanee Raceway, an Indiana track that features trottingbreds – the breed the Foundation uses to teach horsemanship.

HHYF’s five-day overnight camps, for students 12-14, will be held June 20-24 at Harrington Raceway in Delaware; July 7-11 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania and July 14-18 at Vernon Downs in New York.

The leadership program for high school age students with previous HHYF experience is set for Goshen Historic Track for July 20-24.

Shorter introductory programs for children ages 11 and up are scheduled for Running Aces in Minnesota on June 8-9; Nappanee Raceway in Indiana on June 15; Ocean Downs in Maryland on June 26 and at Scioto Downs in Ohio on August 11.

Jody Morone has been named supervisor of the summer program.

“I was in 4-H and became a 4-H leader at age 19,” said Morone. “It helped me realize that hands-on is the best way to learn. When you give kids the opportunity perhaps you awaken something, then anything is possible.”

“I believe HHYF is ready for the dynamic energy of both Jody as summer programs supervisor and Julie as trustee,” said HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor. “Each of them understands the importance of our work and believes wholeheartedly in our mission. We are definitely looking forward to incorporating their ideas as we move HHYF forward in the upcoming busy summer season and in a couple of new areas, too.”

Since 1976, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, a charitable 501(c) 3 organization, has been dedicated to providing young people and their families with educational opportunities working with harness horses, in order to foster the next generation of participants and fans.
