GINGRAS SELECTED DRIVER OF THE YEAR FOR 2014

MANALAPAN, NJ – November 28, 2014 – Yannick Gingras topped the ballot for every chapter sending in a nomination, making him the unanimous choice as the United States Harness Writers Association’s Driver of the Year for 2014, it was announced today.

Gingras, who lives in Allentown, NJ, will be honored at the Dan Patch Awards Banquet on February 22, 2015 at Florida’s Doubletree Hilton Orlando at Sea World.

Yannick Gingras

Gingras locked up the title when, with four Breeders Crown victories, he pushed his season’s earnings to more than $16.5 million.

The 35-year-old Quebec native was honored as USHWA’s Rising Star in 2003, but this is his first selection as Driver of the Year. Tim Tetrick was the winner in both 2012 and 2013.

This is the first year that Gingras has surpassed $16 million in earnings, pushing his career total to $116.8 million. His best win total of 537 in 2013 is in jeopardy as he has 517 wins to date in 2014.

The leading driver at the Meadowlands, Gingras had a particularly memorable Breeders Crown Finals weekend [November 21-22], winning four and finishing second three times in the 12 championship races.

He won with two Ron Burke trainees – Sayitall BB [3yo Filly Pace] and Mission Brief [2yo Filly Trot] – and two Jimmy Takter trainees – Father Patrick [3yo Colt Trot] and Pinkman [2yo Colt Pace]. He was second in the Open Trot with the Takter-trained Maven and second with two conditioned by Burke, Rocklamation in the Open Mare Pace and Sassa Hanover in the Two-Year-Old Filly Pace.
