GRAVESIDE SERVICES THURSDAY FOR DONALD BYRNE

Donald C. Byrne, age 66, of Kennett Square, PA, died Friday August 1, 2014 at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ after a 14-month illness.

He was the loving companion and fiancé of Laure Blomquist, a race office assistant at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Born in Unionville, PA, he was the son of the late George V. and the late Marie J. (Jones) Byrne and brother of the late Patricia Siegel.

Donald was a thoroughbred racing official. He worked as a racing official for Suffolk Downs, Beulah Park, Monmouth Park and Meadowlands Racetrack. In his youth he assisted his parents in the running of the horse farm. He trained and rode steeplechase horses and later trained thoroughbreds for his own stable. He enjoyed cooking, taking care of his beloved farm, spending time with friends and being with his constant canine companions Buster and Remi.

Survivors include, in addition to Laure, one nephew, Joshua E. Siegel and his wife Kate of Wilmington DE and their children Reilly and Sarah.

You are invited to Donald's Life Celebration graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Union Hill Cemetery, 424 North Union St. Kennett Square, PA 19348.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home Inc. (610-444-4116) of Kennett Square. To view his online tribute and to share a memory with his family, please visit www.griecocares.com
