SEBASTIAN K MATCHES WORLD RECORD 1:50 IN $300,650 CASHMAN

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – August 2, 2014 – Sebastian K, the fastest trotter of all time, now also shares the world record for a mile track thanks to an impressive victory in the $300,650 John Cashman Jr. Memorial Trot, the 11th race on Saturday, August 2, 2014, Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands.

The Swedish-bred, trained and driven eight-year-old who races barefoot scored a four and a quarter length victory over Market Share who edged out Archangel in third.

Sebastian K [$2,60], trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt, set the all-age, all-track trotting record of 1:49, winning on June 28 at Poconos. He matched Archangel’s 1:50 mile-track mark which was set in the Cashman elimination.

The son of Korean, racing for the Knutsson Trotting Inc. of Vero Beach, FL, has won seven of eight starts since arriving in the United States in 2014. Lifetime, he has 33 wins, 13 seconds and two thirds in 71 starts. His bankroll is just shy of $2.8 million.

Svanstedt let Archangel, with Yannick Gingras, cut the early fractions of 26.2 and 54.4, pulling out of the two-hole pocket as they hit the turn for home. The pair raced together until the three-quarters when Sebastian K pulled away with a 27-second last quarter for the victory.

“He’s been good all year,” said Svanstedt. “Every race this year, he was very good. He [Gingras with Archangel] leave very fast, and he pushed his horse for that and so I take it with him. I don’t know, the owners decide that, and the horse, too. We’ll see at the end of November what condition we have. We’re not going to race one month. We have raced every weekend in four weeks now, so it’s too much for him. He gets a break now.”
