NJSS CHAMP MISSION BRIEF MATCHES WORLD RECORD WITH MERRIE ANNABELLE VICTORY

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – August 2, 2014 – New Jersey champion Mission Brief tied a world record in the $353,050 Merrie Annabelle for two-year-old trotting fillies in the sixth race on Saturday, August 2, 2014, Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands.

The record ties Designed To Be’s mile at Lexington’s Red Mile in 2013.

Mission Brief, by Muscle Hill, who won the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final on July 12, coasted to an eight and a half length victory over Jolene Jolene. It was nine and a quarter lengths to Lock Down Lindy in third.

Mission Brief, trained by Ron Burke, was a $150,000 Lexington Selected Sale purchase for Burke Racing, Our Horse Cents Stable, J & T Silva Stable and Weaver Bruscemi. She extended her winning streak to four and improved her earnings to $255,775.

“She’s very similar to her mother,” said co-owner Steve Stewart. “Her mother [Southwind Serena] won here as a three-year-old in the Breeders Crown, and she’s very similar to her in the sense of her size and scope. They said this filly is similar to her mother, which is that she’s not that easy to train. That last quarter was 27.4, and I don’t think she was all out.”

CENTURION ATM MASTERS THE PETER HAUGHTON FINAL

Centurion ATM, trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt, captured the $355,500 Peter Haughton Memorial for two-year-old trotting colts, the seventh race, in a stakes record 1:53.2 flat.

The SJ’s Caviar colt now has two wins and two seconds in four starts and lifted his earnings to $197,364.

Centurion ATM was a three and three quarter length winner over Uncle Lasse. It was even lengths to Cruzado Dela Noche in third.

The $100,000 Harrisburg Sale purchase races for Courant AB of Stockholm, Sweden, and Knutsson Trotting of Vero Beach, FL.

SWEET LOU MAKES IT EIGHT STRAIGHT WITH US PACING CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

Sweet Lou [$2.80] posted his eighth straight victory, scoring a length and a half victory in the $257,700 US Pacing Championship for free for all pacers, the fifth race.

Sweet Lou [Lisa Photo Inc]

The five-year-old son of Yankee Cruiser, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by Ron Burke, put away State Treasurer and Thinking Out Loud with a 26-second last quarter. The mile was timed in 1:47.2, well of the stakes record of 1:46, well of the stakes record of 1:46.4 set by Holborn Hanover in 2006.

Sweet Lou, who also won this year’s William Haughton and Ben Franklin, has earned more than $2.9 million for Pennsylvanian’s Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Larry Karr and Philip Collura.

CLASSIC MARTINE MATCHES WORLD RECORD IN IMA LULA

Classic Martine, the 1-5 favorite, out-dueled 2013 Horse of the Year Bee A Magician in the stretch to win the $52,000 Ima Lula Final for four-year-old trotting mares, the first stakes of the 15-race Hambletonian Day card.

Classic Martine, driven by Tim Tetrick and trained by Chris Oakes, cut the mile and crossed the wire in a 1:51.1, equaling the world record for four-year-old trotting mares set by Bee A Magician on July 12 of this year.

Classic Martine posted her seventh victory in nine starts this year and finished a neck ahead of Bee A Magician. It was a length and three-quarters back to NF Happenstance in third.

The daughter of Classic Photo has now banked $764,206 for Hauser Brothers Racing Enterprise or Orangeburg, NY, Susan Oakes of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Conrad Zurich of Fayetteville, NY and Edwin Gold of Phoenixville, PA.
