FATHER PATRICK FAVORED DESPITE POST 10

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – July 29, 2014 – Father Patrick, a divisional champion at two and the winner of the 2014 Stanley Dancer Memorial Trot, has been installed as the 4-5 morning line favorite in the $1,006,125 Hambletonian, the centerpiece of the 16-race, stakes-laden program on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Meadowlands.

The Hambletonian is carded as Race 13, sandwiched between the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks for three-year-old trotting fillies and the $177,750 Lady Liberty for free for all pacing mares.

New Jersey-sired three-year-old pacers will be on display in the $225,000 Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic [Race 4] and the filly companion event, the $100,000 Thomas D’Altrui Miss New Jersey [Race 3]. Both events are sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

The program opens with the $52,000 Ima Lula Final for four-year-old trotting mares [Race 1]. Free for all pacers will be featured in the $257,700 US Pacing Championship [Race 5]. Two-year-old trotters face off in the $352,050 Merrie Annabelle Final [Race 6] for fillies and the $355,500 Peter Haughton Memorial [Race 7] for colts and geldings.

Two $50,000 divisions of the Townsend Ackerman for three-year-old trotters are carded as races eight and nine.

The best of the free for all trotters, including the first 1:49 trotter, Sebastian K, and the one-mile track record-holder with a 1:50 clocking, Archangel, face off in the $300,650 John Cashman Jr. Memorial Final [Race 11] while another stellar field of free for all trotters meet in the $75,000 Vincennes Invitational [Race 10].

With 11 entrants, no elimination heats will be needed for the 89th edition of the Hambletonian, which has been hosted by the Meadowlands since 1981.

The light turnout can likely be attributed to the dominance of the Jimmy Takter-trained trio of Father Patrick, Nuncio and Trixton, who finished in that order in the $317,000 Stanley Dancer Final on July 12.

"Father Patrick is my strongest horse," said Takter after the colt drew post 10. "It's not an ideal post, but this horse is extremely good."

Father Patrick, who will be driven by Yannick GIngras, has won 16 straight and banked $1.2 million for the Father Patrick Stable of East Windsor, NJ. He is rated at 4-5 in the morning line from post 10.

Trixton, a New Jersey-sired son of Muscle Hill, has six wins in eight starts this year and will leave from post seven. The Goodtimes winner is the 7-2 second choice and will be driven by Takter.

Nuncio, who has been first or second in his seven starts this year and in all 17 of his career starts, will be teamed with John Campbell, who tops all drivers with six previous Hambletonian victories. Nuncio leaves from post five and is 9-2 in the morning line.
